What are the Bylaws in Place for Vermilion?

There are many Bylaws for the Town of Vermilion however, the most commonly referred to Bylaws include the Tax Rate Bylaw, Snowmobile Bylaw, and Amendment, Land Use Bylaw, along with Fire Permits, Animal Control, Traffic Control – Sidewalks & Public Places, and Nuisances and Unsightly Properties. You may request copies of these bylaws at the Town Administration Building at 5021 – 49th Avenue or you can read them on our website

Public Works & Utilities Information

Where Do I Hook Up My Water?  What does it Cost?

The Town Hall provides you with the following services: water, sewer, garbage and recycling services.  To activate these services visit the Town Hall at 5021 - 49 Avenue or call Miranda at 780-581-2409.

There is a non-refundable $35.00 water administrative charge for having the account opened in your name.  You will then be billed every two months for your utility bill.

Why Did I Not Receive My Water Bill, I Have Been Here a Month?

This may easily be the case if you moved in the middle of a billing period (every two months) and in that case it is just that you have not received it yet however, you are on the mailing list to receive it soon.  Bills go out on the 15th of every other month (January, March, May, etc.)

When will My Garbage be Picked-Up?

Garbage is picked-up on a weekly basis.  If your property backs on to a back alley a shared dumpster is located along the alley.  Otherwise you require a roll out bin which is placed out front of your property on specific days for your area.

Where do I set my Rollout So the Truck Can Pick It Up?

See the attached guidelines to observe the dos and don’ts for leaving your roll out for pick up.  If you have any other concerns contact Miranda at 780-581-2409.

Garbage bins sitting next to your Rollout will not be picked up.  If you want to purchase an additional Rollout Bin for your home, please call the Town Hall.

What do I do with Yard Waste/Green Waste Material

From May to October of each year green bins are placed around Town for Green Waste which includes grass clippings, garden waste, flowers, and weeds however, does not include tree clippings and branches.  In the spring and the fall, as a part of the Town’s annual cleanup, Town crews will be providing extra garbage pickups to all residential areas for Yard Waste, which would include tree clippings and tree branches.  If you are unable to have your Yard Waste picked up at that time, you will be required to make your own disposal arrangements.

If I Miss Garbage Pick-Up, Where Do I Take My Garbage?

You should take your garbage to the Regional Waste Transfer Station at Paré Drive (North).  There will be no charge for household waste to a Vermilion resident.  (However, if our Town staff missed picking up your garbage contact the Town Hall and arrangements will be made to pick up the garbage.)

Where Would I Take Any Paints and Brushes?

Paint and brushes is considered hazardous waste and when we have a controlled area for these materials, you would take them to the Transfer Station at Pare Drive North.

Who Do I Call for Power and Natural Gas Hookup?

You would call Direct Energy for Power at 1-888-420-3181 and Direct Energy for  Gas at 1-866-420-3174. 

What is the Cable Company and How Can I Reach Them?

Shaw Cable is the cable company for Vermilion.  For customer service please call 1‑800‑400‑9605 or for repairs call 1-800-400-9606.  You also have the option of visiting their website at www.shaw.ca.

Recreational and Leisure Facilities

Where are the Stadium, Arena, Curling Rink located and Vermilion Regional Centre?

The Vermilion & Area Recreation Centre, which includes the two ice arenas and the curling rink, is located at 5510-47 Ave.  An outdoor rink, which converts into tennis courts and a basketball court in the summer months, is located on the north side of the Vermilion Elementary School grounds at 4837-44 St.  The new Vermilion Regional Centre is located at 5702 – 47 Avenue and is available for booking for numerous different functions, meetings, etc. If you wish to book ice or any facility please contact the Town Hall at 780-581-2402.

What is there Available for Children to Do in this Community?

What Counselling Services are available?

At the Town Hall we have a collection of pamphlets and brochures concerning counselling services.  Vermilion Community Counselling Services are provided by Catholic Social Services.  Contact them at 780-875-9084.  You may also want to check with the Vermilion Mental Health Clinic at 780-853-8168.

There are counselling services available from Catholic Social Services in Lloydminster; the Battle River Victim Assistance Society (victims of crime and tragedy) and the Lloydminster Sexual Assault Centre (victims of sexual assault).  For more information contact the Town Hall.

Temporary shelters and second stage housing for individuals who have fled from an abusive environment are offered at the Lloydminster Interval Home, but more permanent shelters are located at Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre in Cold Lake.  For more information on other services available to the community contact the Town Hall or, find the listing Human Services in the Chamber of Commerce phonebook.

Do I Have to License My Cat/Dog?

Yes, it is required by Bylaw to license your cat/dog.  You can register your pet and pick up a license at the Town Hall.  License fees for a cat/dog that is not altered and over 6 months old are $50.00 and altered are $20.00. There is a separate fee of $250 for restricted dogs.  Replacement tags are $10.

Who Do I Contact if I Lost My Cat/Dog?

You would need to contact the Town Hall and ask for the Municipal Enforcement Officer to assist and retrieve the animal, providing him with the description of the animal, tag number, and a contact number to reach you.  It is possible though that your pet has already been found and being held at the Vermilion Veterinary Clinic; in this case contact the Town Hall at 780-853-5358.

What Do I Need to Know Concerning Snowmobiles?

For the best interests of residents of the Town of Vermilion, a Bylaw on snowmobiles, to ensure safety and protect property and persons, has been established.  This Bylaw restricts snow vehicles on any portion of highways and limits their hours of operation.  See the link on our website at www.vermilion.ca/town_departments/municipal_enforcement/town_by_laws/ Council – Bylaw 1-2005 for further information.

Is there a Welcome Wagon?

Yes and no.  There is the My Community: CSS Canada where local businesses sponsor the distribution of heirloom family bibles to newly weds, anniversary plates for special anniversaries, welcome newcomer plates for incoming residents as well as birth plates for new babies.  Contact Emily Anderson at 780-853-2347 if you have any questions or know of someone who is eligible.

How Do You Get Your Mail?

Contact the Canada Post Corporation at 780-853-5676 or visit their office at 5040-50 Ave. and at that time the Post Office will give you a key to a designated community mail box.

Where Do I Go to Get a Pin or a Flag?

Alberta flags and pins can be purchased at the Vermilion-Lloydminster Constituency office at 5036-49 Ave. and Canadian flags from the office of Leon Benoit MP of Vegreville-Wainwright in Mannville.

Town of Vermilion pins can be purchased at the Town Hall 5021–49 Ave. or the Chamber of Commerce Office at 4606-52 Street.

How would I Book the CN Station?

The Park Ranger and Fish & Wildlife Officers work from an office in the Vermilion Provincial Building located at 4701-52 Street.

The Park Office is located at the Vermilion Provincial Park.  To make reservations for camping, picnic facilities, and the CN Station call 780-853-4372.

What is the Phone Number to the Food Bank along with the Hours and Location?

The food bank runs out of the Roman Catholic Church at the Holy Name Parish on Fridays from 1 pm to 3 pm.  You can contact them at 780-853-5161 or at 4620-53 Ave.

Where is the Farmers Market?  What are their Hours?

The Vermilion Downtown Farmers Market is situated at the Elks Hall at 5026-49 Ave. running on Tuesdays 10 am to 1 pm from March to Christmas.

Where can I donate to Santa’s Anonymous?
