Let’s Plant some Trees!

Let’s do our part to help clean up the environment! One great way you can help, is to give a donation via your utility bill.

Example: your utility bill contains a space where you can indicate you’re making a ‘top up’ donation. Let’s say your utility bill is $87.46. You top up the amount to $90 or $95, whatever amount you wish to donate, and the balance goes to Green Streets Vermilion. (You will receive a receipt for tax purposes) Brochure

These contributions go to Green Streets Vermilion, a joint effort of the Vermilion Area Horticultural Society and the Town of Vermilion. The purpose is to enhance the community environment through a tree planting program in residential neighbourhoods, parks, the downtown core, and transportation corridors.

One large tree can:

  • Lift 450 litres of water out of the ground and discharge it into the air in one day
  • Reduce the energy consumption of air conditioners by lowering peak summer temperatures from 5 to 9 degrees
  • Provide a day's oxygen for up to four people
  • Increase property values by some 20%

Trees also help deal with the pollution caused by auto exhaust and home/office heating, and wide belts of tall, dense trees contribute significantly to the reduction of noise pollution.
