National Winners!

The Town of Vermilion, AB has participated in Communities in Bloom for several years, claiming the Provincial Title in 2000 and the National Title receiving 5 Blooms in 2010!

2011 proclaimed Vermilion a finalist in the Circle of Champions Population Small Category of the 2011 National Edition of Communities in Bloom, receiving a 5 Bloom rating and a special mention for Agricultural Fair Honours Communities in Bloom.

Things that have been said about Vermilion are...

"The Town of Vermilion is a wonderful mix of contrasts: treasured historic sites with new businesses and buildings, an agricultural tradition with oil and gas related industry, small-town charm with big-city amenties.  The recently completed streetscape program and new town signage cleverly capture and display that mix.  The downtown plantings are hardy and well-suited and the 80 new reservoir-equipped hanging baskets are sensational.  Because Vermilion is named after the red clay in the river valley, the colour red has been used extensively and successfully throughout the streetscape program."

"Vermillion is also a centre for farming and community college-learning in east central Alberta. The annual Vermillion Agricultural Fair is still one of the largest agricultural fairs in Alberta and across Canada. The theme for the 2011 fair and Parade was “Honouring Communities in Bloom “.  The community involvement was so large that it took an hour for the floats and other participants to complete the parade route.  If people were unaware of what Communities in Bloom stood for, they certainly understood after the extensive events in Vermilion, as the towns’ displays were innovative, exciting and celebrated the success of the CiB program. The three day Fair unites the community, projecting its heritage and ensures everyone has a wonderful time."

Vermilion, AB strives to continually improve on previous years while maintaining and implementing ideas from not only the judges, but local committee members and interested citizens as well.  It’s about getting everyone involved. We’re in it together!
