The Residential Organics Program allows residents to divert food and organic waste from landfill through curbside collection.
Accepted Materials
Organics include food waste and compostable household materials such as:
-
Food scraps (meat, dairy, bread, rice, vegetables, coffee grounds)
-
Soiled paper products (napkins, pizza boxes)
-
Yard waste (grass, leaves, garden waste, small branches)
-
Pet waste and dryer lint
Only organic materials are permitted in organics bins.
Bin Placement Guidelines
-
Place your bin at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day
-
Sidewalk placement is not permitted
-
Allow 1 metre of clearance on all sides
-
Do not park in front of bins on collection day
Bins that are improperly placed may not be collected.
Roll-Out Bins
Single-family homes are provided with a Town-owned roll-out bin assigned to the civic address. Bins must remain with the property if you move.
Bins should only be placed at the curb on collection day to reduce the risk of damage or theft. Altered or damaged bins may be subject to replacement costs.
For bin repairs due to normal wear and tear, contact Infrastructure & Planning Services at 780-581-2415.
Multi-Family Properties
Organic collection is not available for multi-family units at this time. Organic waste from these properties should be placed in regular garbage.
Missed or Improper Collection
Bins may not be collected due to improper placement, late set-out, severe weather, or service disruptions. If your bin is missed, please remove it from the curb and wait for the next scheduled collection or further direction from the Town.
Placing non-organic material in organics bins is considered misuse and may result in additional charges.
