The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) includes the community-based police force, as well as the highway patrol for the Vermilion area. The highest priority is placed on safety and security for Vermilion’s residents.

The Vermilion RCMP department is involved in a number of outreach activities, including the Battle River Victim Assistance Society, which provides support for traumatized crime victims.

The volunteer fire department has 25 dedicated members, to ensure the safety of Vermilion’s residents. As a fully trained rescue squad, these firefighters are trained to handle any situation that may arise. Their state of the art equipment includes three fire trucks and a rescue unit.

The Town of Vermilion is part of the 911 system dispatched through Wainwright, with the Prairie Emergency Medical Services Inc. providing reliable services 24/7 with three emergency units.

The bylaws are enforced by a Community Peace Officer. For disputes or complaints, please direct them to Town Hall at 780-853-5358.

How to Apply?

Application for construction of an acceptable fire pit/place can be made to the Fire Department through the Town Office by filling out the accompanying application form.

When complete application and payment has been received at Town Office, development may proceed.

Once completed, notify the Town Office and a Safety Codes Officer will inspect, consider the application and issue a permit (if all requirements have been met).

The Safety Codes Officer or Town Council may suspend or cancel the permit at any time.

Victim services units support victims of crime in partnership with the RCMP, municipal police services and community-based programs.

Help for victims of specific types of crime are funded through the Justice and Solicitor General Victims of Crime Fund.
