POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Snow Removal Technician is responsible for working independently and as a team member under the direct supervision of the Manager of Operations.Responsible for the de-icing and clearing of snow from sidewalks, paths and stairs, parking lots for various public spaces throughout the Town of Vermilion in an efficient manner, promoting job work site safety, providing excellent customer service, and exhibiting pride and quality workmanship. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical demands require constantly moving, walking, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent operation of machinery and will use hands/fingers and legs to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect and position materials.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk, lift and/or move up to 50 to over 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Constantly required to communicate with ability to talk and hear.
  • Job will require constantly working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure to elements.
SCHEDULE:
  • This is a part-time position which may require occasional work in the evening and weekend. This position is an on-call basis based on snowfall occurrences with no guaranteed hours. The flexible schedule may be well-suited to individuals seeking occasional work or supplemental income.

EXPERIENCE: 
  • Must be able to operate aToolCAT or equivalent with broom & snowblower attachments.
  • Must have a valid Class 5. Class 3 is considered an asset.

  • Good physical condition
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Provide a current RCMP Criminal Record
  • Check as a condition of employment
  • Provide a current Drivers Abstract as a condition of employment
  • Authorized to work in Canada

SALARY:
  •  $24.00 per hour

Are you looking for a hands-on career where every day makes a difference in your community? The Town of Vermilion is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Utility Operator.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a vital public service role that keeps our water and wastewater systems running smoothly. No certification yet? No problem! We’re willing to train and support the right candidate in achieving their Operator Level I certification.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain water, sewer, and storm facilities, including pumps, valves, and backup engines.
  • Ensure compliance with the "Alberta Environment Code of Practice" to provide safe and potable drinking water.
  • Conduct repairs on water, sanitary, and storm systems as needed.
  • Operate municipal equipment, hand tools, and other equipment safely and effectively, using specific operational skills and procedures.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to alarms and critical situations such as low/high pressure, high flow, reservoir levels, and power failures.
  • Analyze and interpret data from the SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition) system.
  • Complete daily tasks as outlined in work orders generated by the administration/utility billing department.
  • Perform monthly water meter readings for commercial and residential properties.
  • Conduct seasonal maintenance activities such as hydrant flushing, winterization, line flushing, sewer flushing, and valve exercising.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule for 24-hour emergency on-call response.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Willingness to learn and complete certification training
  • Basic Mechanical or technical aptitude
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

SALARY:

  • Competitive wages – Salary of $61,080 - $66,064 (depending on qualifications)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
