POSITION OVERVIEW:

Are you looking for a hands-on career where every day makes a difference in your community? The Town of Vermilion is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Utility Operator.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a vital public service role that keeps our water and wastewater systems running smoothly. No certification yet? No problem! We’re willing to train and support the right candidate in achieving their Operator Level I certification.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain water, sewer, and storm facilities, including pumps, valves, and backup engines.
  • Ensure compliance with the "Alberta Environment Code of Practice" to provide safe and potable drinking water.
  • Conduct repairs on water, sanitary, and storm systems as needed.
  • Operate municipal equipment, hand tools, and other equipment safely and effectively, using specific operational skills and procedures.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to alarms and critical situations such as low/high pressure, high flow, reservoir levels, and power failures.
  • Analyze and interpret data from the SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition) system.
  • Complete daily tasks as outlined in work orders generated by the administration/utility billing department.
  • Perform monthly water meter readings for commercial and residential properties.
  • Conduct seasonal maintenance activities such as hydrant flushing, winterization, line flushing, sewer flushing, and valve exercising.
  • Participate in a rotating schedule for 24-hour emergency on-call response.

  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn and complete certification training
  • Basic Mechanical or technical aptitude
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

SALARY:

  • Competitive wages – Salary of $61,080 - $66,064 (depending on qualifications)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency

This position plays a key role in providing exceptional front-line service to residents and supporting the Town’s financial operations.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Clerk is responsible for a variety of administrative and financial tasks including customer service, business licensing, and cemetery administration. This role offers a great opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front Counter & Financial Support
  • Provide professional and friendly customer service in person, by phone, and email.
  • Process payments, billing inquiries, and new account requests.
  • Support the finance team with reconciliations, journal entries, payables, and reporting.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation and financial audits.
  • Provide coverage and general administrative support as needed.
  • Business Licensing
  • Maintain and update the Town’s business license system.
  • Prepare and issue annual license renewals and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with the Business License Bylaw and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Cemetery Administration
  • Maintain cemetery records and mapping through the Town’s software system.
  • Assist families with plot purchases and provide compassionate, professional service.
  • Coordinate with funeral homes and internal departments to ensure timely services.
