  • Understanding our Snow Removal Fleet
With the break in snowfall and warmer weather, the Town’s public works team is hard at work clearing snow to keep the roadways safe and passable for residents, businesses and emergency services.
Unlike larger cities, our fleet only consists of five (5) units and does not include dozens of vehicles which can be found in larger centers. Snow removal in our town includes a fleet of:
    · One (1) Grader: this is our primary piece of equipment for cutting down and winging back snowpack on the streets. It takes time to move through priority routes, especially after large accumulations.
    · One (1) Loader Mounted Snow Blower Attachment: this unit is used to load the snow into trucks during clean-up operations where snow is hauled away from the roads.
    · Two (2) Tandem Trucks & One (1) Roll-Off Bin Truck: these three vehicles are used to haul snow away to our snow dump locations once it’s been loaded by the loader mounted snow blower. Limited truck capacity means hauling snow is limited and it takes time to clean each segment of road. The Roll-Off Bin is new to our fleet, just arriving last week. This has a larger capacity than our existing Tandem Trucks and should help improve our snow removal times.
Council has also approved additional funds in 2026 to allow for the Town to use local contractors to expedite snow removal in the downtown core areas. This will result in faster snow removal from our busy downtown roads which will allow our crew to move into other areas for snow removal faster than in the past.
We understand that winter can be frustrating, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. Our crews work long hours during and after storms, often starting early in the morning and working into the evening when needed.
