Review Your Property Tax Notices

The recent provincial budget has introduced substantial increases to education property taxes, affecting homeowners and businesses across Alberta.

The provincial government has raised the education property tax requisition, which is collected through municipal property tax bills to fund the education system. This increase will result in higher property tax bills for many residents, even if local municipal taxes remained unchanged.

Municipal leaders emphasize that while these taxes are collected locally, the rates are set by the provincial government and municipalities are required to remit the funds to support Alberta’s education system.

We understand the frustration this may cause property owners, especially in a time when many families and businesses are already facing financial pressures. It’s important to know that this increase is driven by the provincial budget, not local decisions.

The municipality encourages residents to review their property tax notices carefully and reach out with any questions or concerns. For anyone with questions we encourage you to reach out to staff at taxes@vermilion.ca or 780-853-5338 or arrange for an in-person appointment at the Town office. The Town office is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday through Friday and if you leave an after hours message we will get back to you as soon as possible.
