This Regular Council Meeting of March 16, 2021 was brief and included a number of Committee Reports including a recommendation from the Environment Committee to reappoint Juliane Ollinger to the Environment Committee for a three-year term, expiring March 2024. Prior to this meeting, Council toured the nearly completed wastewater treatment plant which has been under consideration since 2014 and under construction since 2019.
The new organics program that is coming to all single-family homes will be picked up by Integrity Waste Solutions. The organic waste will be transported to an Alberta Environment and Parks approved facility capable of accepting leaf and yard waste, food waste and other consumer organics from municipal organic collection programs, and bio-solids from wastewater treatment plants.
It is time to roll out your green bin!. With the curbside organics program starting April 27, 2021 it is a good time to pull your green bin out of storage and get ready for spring cleanup.
The Town will be offering curbside organics collection to all single-family homes starting April 27, 2021. Green rollout bins and kitchen bins will be delivered the week of April 12-16, 2021.
Council approved the write off, of the uncollectible account of The County of Vermilion River in the amount of $11,391 to be expensed in the 2021 fiscal year.
The Town of Vermilion has approved funding through the MOST grant be applied for on behalf of the Vermilion & District Housing Foundation as well as the Vermilion Public Library, however cannot guarantee that these organizations will receive funding for the items that they have applied for. The Vermilion Facility Enhancement Board is made up of user groups, members at large and a representative of the Town Council and Community Services Director with the goals to promote and raise awareness and money for facility enhancements in the Town of Vermilion. Our first facility enhancement project is to raise money and acquire a new Ice Plant to run the Vermilion Stadium, Arena and Curling rink.
