Council proclaimed the week of May 9-15, 2021 as International Economic Development Week. The Council for the Town of Vermilion acknowledged economic developers and their role in helping entrepreneurs achieve their dreams, existing businesses expand, new businesses finding sites and workers, workers getting training, revitalizing neighborhoods, and promoting the community.
Mr. Donald Isaman reviewed the operational and capital portions of the audited financial statements with Council, indicating a “clean audit”. Council accepted the financial statements for 2020 as presented.
Sgt. Dunsmore (by Zoom) – RCMP Detachment Vermilion Quarterly Community Policing Report – January 1 to March 31, 2021
Mayor Caroline McAuley congratulated Sgt. Dunsmore on his promotion to Sergeant in the Vermilion Detachment Commander position.
This Regular Council Meeting of March 16, 2021 was brief and included a number of Committee Reports including a recommendation from the Environment Committee to reappoint Juliane Ollinger to the Environment Committee for a three-year term, expiring March 2024. Prior to this meeting, Council toured the nearly completed wastewater treatment plant which has been under consideration since 2014 and under construction since 2019.
Council approved the write off, of the uncollectible account of The County of Vermilion River in the amount of $11,391 to be expensed in the 2021 fiscal year.
Council approved the increase in 2019 Computer/Printer Capital budget by $29,000 funded by Municipal Operating Support Transfer (MOST) grant in part to improve the quality of the Council Meeting broadcasts.
Fire Chief Bill Roth gave a brief overview regarding the purchase of the new Aerial Quint Fire Truck to replace the 20 year old Pumper Truck. He spoke about the 20 year longevity of this purchase. Mr. Roth indicated that this new equipment will keep the area well served for many years moving forward.
